A joint occasions post for our beautiful followers, for Ramadan and for the Fourth of July.
To all our followers of Islam, "Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah" (May the peace and mercy of Allah be with you.)
From Huffington Post / USA
"What are the dates of Ramadan? Because the cycle of the lunar calendar does not match the solar calendar, the dates of Ramadan shift by approximately 11 days each year.
In 2014, Ramadan is expected to begin on Sunday, June 29, in the United States, although the date is only confirmed once the moon is sighted. Ramadan for the rest of the world is expected to begin on Saturday, June 28th.
The ending of Ramadan is marked by the holiday of Eid ul-Fitr, which takes place either 29 or 30 days after the beginning of the month.
On Eid ul-Fitr, morning prayers are followed by feasting and celebration among family and friends."
And to our American brothers and sisters, early happy fourth on July. We do hope the fireworks don't disturb you! If you are able to celebrate, in any small way, let us know how!
Best Wishes, Much Love and Blessings

Ramadan 2014 - from the USA
"A time for self-reflection and devotion through prayer and fasting, Ramadan is also an occasion when Muslims around the world reaffirm their commitment to helping the less fortunate, including those struggling because of economic hardship and inequality". President Obama
Thank you Tink & Jodi for adding your beautiful voices to the chorus of others who care about issues of justice and welfare in this terrible, wonderful world.

July 4th Celebrations USA 2014
Such calendar markings meant much more to me when my dad was alive.
A veteran of WWII, he strove to provide for his family. Went to work regularly. Mowed the lawn. Put up the Christmas tree. Uncountable sacrifices. All the dad stuff taken for granted so easily at the time.
But every so often - usually on Red, White & Blue 'holidays' - I'd catch him gazing out the window through wet eyes wistfully. He'd simply seen too much.
Already the sounds meant to emulate rockets glaring, are popping at night through my window. Oy.
Peace to one and all. Wouldn't that be nice? Thanks to you Tink & Jodi for steadfastly soldiering on. And for us all as well.
